Washington State Road Test

In order to take the road test you must have passed the state knowledge test within the past 2 years, be 18 years of age or older, or if you are under age 18, you must have also completed a teen driver's education course. We can also issue a temporary permit that is only valid for the driving test, if needed.

The test will last approximately 20-30 minutes. Please arrive early to prevent any delays. Please be sure to bring your Photo ID (state ID card, school ID, passport, etc.) Something issued by a government, school, or municipality is required. If you want to drive your own car, please bring your car's insurance and registration.


Below is a list of what we will test you on once you're behind the wheel:

1. Starting your vehicle.

2. Leaving the curb: do you signal and wait until it's safe to re-enter traffic?

3. Controlling the vehicle​

4. Driving in traffic​

5. Obeying traffic signals and signs​

6. Stopping​

7. Backing up​

8. Judging distance, do you stay a safe distance away from other cars when following or passing, or people walking or riding on the roadway
9. Respectful driving
10. Performing specific maneuvers, can you complete the following:

  • Arm signals for right/left turn and slow or stop (you may use your arm signals during the test)

  • A brake reaction test/emergency stop

  • Parking on a hill

  • Parallel parking

  • Simulating backing out of a driveway or alley into traffic using a corner
